Plan B Burger Bar Certified Humane

1/11/2010 8:20:00 AM

Conn.– Plan B Burger Bar was Certified Humane Raised & Handled® by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC). Plan B Burger Bar, a Locals 8 Restaurant Holdings (L8R) company, is a gourmet burger, bourbon and beer bar in Connecticut with three locations.

Since the HFAC program was unveiled in May 2003, more than 65 companies, representing hundreds of farms and millions of farm animals, have been certified. Certified Humane beef means that cattle are allowed to exhibit natural animal behaviors, graze freely, and have shelter from the elements. The cattle are never fed animal by-products, hormones or antibiotics.

Plan B Burger Bar was recognized as an industry leader by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell in a proclamation that she dedicated to the restaurant group. The governor named an official Plan B Burger Day and said, “This recognition is a testament to your outstanding public service and commitment to making and serving the best burgers in the state of Connecticut… This recognition celebrates your many contributions to the food community of Connecticut… You have demonstrated your dedication and commitment to quality food; fresh, never frozen, ground-on-the-premises meat.”

“We’re proud of our commitment to treat animals with compassion,” said Shawn Skehan, Plan B co-founder and partner. “I really believe that the low stress environment for the cattle is the key ingredient behind the quality of our beef. This is something that’s important to all of us at Plan B, and it matters to the people who dine in our restaurants. We see non-beef eaters every week who tell us that they’ll eat our burgers because the beef is Certified Humane.”
